Alvar Aalto's 400 armchair is a masterpiece classic design, which is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The curved armrests made of wood, its solid wooden frame (birch) and upholstered seat, gave it nicknamed 'tank', which stands for comfortable, timeless design or collector's item. The Aalto armchair 400 was originally designed for the Milan Triennale in 1936. It is produced by the Finnish company Artek, founded by Aalto in 1935 and operating under the Vitra group today.

The free-swinging Aalto 400 armchair is still very modern even today and it is available in different versions, inclusive a black wooden frame. The chair can be upholstered in different fabrics. The white fabric Hallingdal with 70% wool and 30% viscose of the Danish company Kvadrat. The zebra fabric consists of 56% wool, 39% cotton, and 5% acrylic. The 400 armchair can be also upholstered with reindeer skin or leather.
