Aino Aalto (1894-1949) was a Finnish architect, designer and one of the founders of Artek. She began her career at Oiva Kallio in Helsinki, but moved in 1924 to the office of Alvar Aalto, whom she married later. Aino Aalto is known primarily for her work with the glass, as an interior architect, but also as a furniture designer. Her creative portfolio includes architecture, photography, applied arts and design. Aino Aalto designed, among other objects made of glass and ceramics, also lamps and textiles. Together with her husband Alvar Aalto and Maire Gullichsen she founded Artek, where she acted as general manager between 1941-1949 and significantly contributed to the business development. In many ways it was the Aino Aalto, who created the foundations of Artek, i.e. aesthetics combined with modern clean lines .
