Alvar Aalto

Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is considered as one of the masters of modern architecture. He was one of the best known and most influential Finnish architects and designers. Alvar Aalto became famous for his special concept in the field of organic architecture. He created public facilities such as libraries, theaters, universities, churches and private houses, which are individual and in harmony with their surroundings. Aalto preferred natural materials and paid attention to the details by designing his furniture. He was one of the founders of Artek, a company founded in 1935 with the objective to market internationally the products of Alvar and Aino Aalto. One of his most famous design pieces is the Aalto vase, which was attracting the attention already at the launch in Paris in 1937. Another design, Stool 60 from 1933, with its simple, Bauhaus inspired form, belongs with its revolutionary wooden L-leg construction to the classics masterpieces.
