Eero Aarnio

Eero Aarnio (born 1932) is a Finnish furniture designer, whose designs are an important part of international design of the 60s and the modern era. Aarnio's works are well recognized worldwide. Playful and reduced forms, materials and colors are specific for his designs. The best known furniture pieces are his plastic and fiberglass chair Ball Chair, Bubble Chair and the Pastil Chair, for which he received the American Industrial Award award in 1968. Many of his designs belong to the collections of the most prestigious museums in the world, e.g. the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York or the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. Eero Aarnio's awards include the Compasso d'Oro Design Prize in 2008, the Kaj Frank Design Award in Finland in 2008, the Red Dot Design Award in 2010 or received the honorary professorship title in Finland in 2007.
