Jørgen Gammelgaard

Jørgen Gammelgaard (1938-1991) is one of the most significant Danish furniture designers, who mastered the traditional craftsmanship. Like many of his successful colleagues Gammelgaard studied at the Danish Royal Academy of Design, where he worked under Poul Kjærholm and Ole Wanscher. He worked for many famous Danish design studios, e.g. Arne Jacobsen, Mogens Koch, Steen Eiler Rasmussen and Jørgen Bo and he also worked in numerous consulting projects, e.g. the UN building, for which he developed the famous Tip Top lamp serie. Jørgen Gammelgaard was the first designer who both received awards from the Danish Design Council and the Council for Arts and Crafts . He was awarded with the professor title of the Danish Royal Academy in 1987.
