Artek Pirkka Chair

Quick Overview

Availability: 6-10 weeks

The Pirkka chair with its unique design is a great dining chair. It was created in 1955 by Finnish designers and architects Ilmari Tapiovaara for Artek and was inspired by the traditional Finnish furniture of that time. The design of the chair is Scandinavian modern and timeless, a little rustic which is typical of the 1950s. The Pirkka chair fits perfectly to the Pirkka furniture collection Tapiovaara which consists of a table, bench and stool, although the chair also looks great on its own.The Pirkka chair is available in black/brown stain, with the seat made of solid pine and the frame made of solid birch.

Ilmari Tapiovaara is one of the most important Finnish interior architects and designers of his generation. He won numerous international awards for his work, such as six gold medals at the Milan Triennale in 1951, 1954, 1957, 1960 and 1964. In 1951, he also received the prestigious Good Design Award in Chicago and the Pro Finlandia medal in 1959.
